Visit of Distinguished members of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to BioNEST-IASST

On 19th Dec, distinguished members of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of IASST, Prof. Amalendu Chandra and Prof. B. N. Goswami, along with IASST faculty members, visited the BioNEST-IASST facility. Witnessing the operational strides of the incubation center for promoting and developing entrepreneurs in the NE Region, the members conveyed their contentment with the ongoing advancements. Visit of Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University at BioNEST - IASST

On September 27th, 2023, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, along with Professor Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director of IASST, and Prof. Devasish Chowdhury from the Physical Science Division of IASST, visited the Bio-NEST IASST facility. ‘Entrepreneurship Exposure’ - Royal Global University

On 21st Sep 2023, Bio-NEST IASST hosted the students and faculty members from the Department of Microbiology, Royal Global University, Guwahati for an ‘Entrepreneurship Exposure’ visit as part of the bio-entrepreneurship awareness program and motivated the students to accept the enticing career option of entrepreneurship in the near future. Mr. Sagar Kumar, Manager (I&O), and Dr. Tania Paul Das, Manager (S&T) from Bio-NEST IASST, presented an interactive session aimed at spurring the exchange of knowledge and ideas in the field of Bio-entrepreneurship and shared real-life examples of bio-startups with the students. Karthikeyan, CEO of AAU NEATEHUB. In her talk, Dr. Barooah defined Nutraceuticals, and stated differences between dietary supplements and functional foods. She gave a scenario of the nutraceutical market in India, and emphasized on the development steps and business strategy of producing functional foods for market. She also gave a know-how of acquiring nutraceutical licenses, branding techniques and schemes that support nutraceuticals development in India. A total of 40 participants attended the session. Launch of R&D unit and production site at BioNEST IASST

Aavya Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd. has setup a Research & Development unit and production site at Bio-NEST IASST (Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology), Guwahati for developing a molecular transport medium for collection of viral samples. The uniqueness of the product is that sample is stable at room temperature for up to 7 days eradicating the hassles of cold supply chain. Aavya Life Science got funding support of Rs. 25 Lakhs from NECTAR (North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach) and has incubated their production unit at the BioNEST IASST which was inaugurated by the Guest of Honour, Dr. Arun Kumar Sharma, Director General, NECTAR, in the august presence of Prof. Ashis Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IASST along with other dignitaries on 1st July 2022, Friday. On the occasion of International MSME Day 2022 and as a part of the celebration of 75th Year of India's Independence, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsava, BioNEST IASST organized a webinar on 27th June 2022 from 3 PM onward. The topic for the webinar was “Creation of Biotech MSMEs for Atmanirbhar Bharat” which was addressed by Mr. Anijit Bhattacharya, Consultant – Grant Thorton Bharat LLP. A total of 35 participants attended the session. The inaugural speech was delivered by Prof. Devasish Chowdhury, Physical Science Division, Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology. Mr. Anijit Bhattacharya initially emphasized on the impact of Biotechnology sectors on the economy, gave an overview of what MSME is and how MSMEs are contributing in GDP and what are the pre-requisites of registering under MSME. He vividly described the traits and characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and lastly explained the major schemes that are available to support MSMEs. (read more)

On the occasion of National Technology Day 2022 and as a part of Swachhata Pakhwada celebrations, BioNEST IASST organized a webinar on 11th May 2022 from 10:30 am onward. The topic for the webinar is “E-Waste: The Tech Garbage Issues & Opportunities” which was addressed by Mr. Achitra Borgohain, Founder & CEO – Binbag Recycling. A total of 46 participants attended the session. The inaugural speech was delivered by honourable Director, IASST, Prof. A. K. Mukherjee emphasized on rebooting the economy by advancement in science & technologies and creating awareness on Re-use, Reduce and Recycle of E-waste. The guest speaker Mr. Borgohain vividly showcased how there is tremendous increase in the generation of e- waste just due to adversity of technology development and 90% of e-waste goes to the informal sector. He opined that regulations should be there to increase the recycling rate through Awareness, Access to e-waste and Asset creation out of waste. He motivated the budding entrepreneurs to work on challenges like novel recycling technologies, digitizing the supply chain and updating the recycling strategy for industry. (read more)

Currently he is a Start-up Consultant, Mentor and Registered Patent Agent with expertise in IPR and Tech Commercialization. About 40 participants attended the webinar in hybrid mode. BioNEST IASST organized an interactive session on "Lab to Market - Transforming Academic Research into Commercial Innovations in Life Science" on 21st April 2022 from 11 am onwards at the auditorium of IASST. The invited guest speaker was Dr. Vishal Bharadwaj, who is a Senior Consultant at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), Bangalore. In his talk, he vividly described how researchers and faculty of educational and R&D Institutes can avail the facilities of C-CAMP and the funding sources available for entrepreneurs and startups. He also gave an overview of avenues of facilitating research, collaboration, commercialization of technologies and ways of nurturing bio-entrepreneurship. Almost 60 participants attended the interactive session. The seminar ended with the vote of thanks rendered by Prof. Devasish Chowdhury, PSD, IASST. (read more)
