National Technology Day


BioNest in association with IASST organized National Technology Day on 11th May 2021(Tuesday). This event was a part of the Celebration of the 75th Year of India’s Independence “Aazadi ka Amrut Mahotsava” and concurrently with Swatchhata Pakhwada which is being observed from 1st May to 15th May 2021.

The Webinar was coordinated by Mr. Chandrabhan Kakoty, Manager (Incubation & Outreach) of BioNest-IASST. The event commenced with an inaugural speech by the Honourable Director-IASST, Prof. Ashis Kr. Mukherjee.

It was a privilege to have two eminent speakers, who are also recognised practitioners in the field of Swatchhata, or sanitation.

The first speaker was Mr Stanzin Tsephel, Director, South Asia for Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA). BORDA is an International Civil Society expert organisation headquartered in Germany. Mr Stanzin has over 18 years of work experience in the areas of water and sanitation. He has worked with organizations such as Stockholm Environment Institute, International Water Management Institute, Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG), and Government of Uttaranchal(India).

The second speaker was Mr Arumugam Kalimuthu, Programme Director at Wash Institute. The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Institute in Kodaikanal, established during the year 2008, is a registered non-profit Technical, training, research and development organization dedicated to providing practical solutions to a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues across South Asia particularly India. He has worked with Water For People, WaterAid India, WaterAid Nepal and Plan International (India). As a technical expert, he is representing top level committees of Government of India namely SACOSAN-VI Planning Committee and Committee on Ganga Action Plan on Sanitation technology of Ministry of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation.

There were total 70 participants who gained an understanding of treatment and reuse of wastewater and sludge following natural principles. Wash Institute also demonstrated their innovative on-site faecal sludge management and septage treatment system.
